In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, organizations worldwide found themselves facing challenges that they have never faced before. Among the organizations facing these challenges was the Paradiso TB Patients Trust. However, instead of succumbing to the obstacles presented by the pandemic, Paradiso rose to the occasion, showing, adaptability, and commitment to the cause.
Recognizing the threat posed by the virus, Paradiso took action to protect its volunteers and staff. Operations at club level were temporarily suspended to shield volunteers from potential exposure. Additionally, 3000 face masks were procured and distributed to ensure the safety of those on the front lines.
From September 7th to 16th, 2020, distribution effort took place. Led by the Program Manager, District Coordinators and Field Officers, Paradiso equiped volunteers with essential resources. Face masks, identity cards, and TB booklets were distributed in all TB clubs, ensuring that volunteers were well-prepared to continue their vital work.
The distribution revealed both achievements and challenges within the community. Despite the lockdown measures, many clubs remained dutifully firm and eager to resume their activities. Some even experienced increase in membership.
Remarkably, even during the lockdown, volunteers continued to spread awareness about TB and refer presumptive cases, resulting in the diagnosis of numerous TB patients. The strong bond between the clubs and local health facilities remained intact, with health workers actively participating in meetings and praising Paradiso for its support.
However, amidst the successes, there were setbacks to contend with. The number of referrals saw a significant decline due to the lockdown, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic. Some members feared that the clubs had been disbanded permanently.
Despite these challenges, Paradiso TB Patients Trust remained determined in its mission. Through commitment and innovative approaches, Paradiso continues to make impact in the fight against tuberculosis, volunteers kept on serving their communities, showing that even when times are tough, they can still make a difference..
